Teeth play an important part in human life. Without it, one cannot chew food. As in present day, every individual life has become too busy that they cannot take care of themselves. So it has become necessary to visit dentist twice in a month for teeth care as without teeth, one lose expression and smile in face that attract others.

Keeping in mind, Medical council of India has granted approval to various dental colleges in india for providing dental education. Dentist aims to provide smile on every face as with shining white teeth smile on human face make it more attractive. The dental colleges endow with undergraduate, post graduate courses in dental surgery.

Till 2010, around 30 thousands are taking dental education in around 291 dental institutes of india including 39 government institute, which are offering various learning program related to dental surgery. Post graduate degree is a three years learning program offered in various respective fields in dental surgery. Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) made one professional in one subject of dental science and one can select one field from prosthodontics, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, conservative dentistry and endodontics orthodontics and dentofacial, orthopaedics, oral pathology and microbiology, community dentistry, pedodontics and preventive dentistry, oral medicine diagnosis and radiology as a specialized subject. The Bachelor in Dental surgery degree is awarded after successful completion of five years of educational learning, including one year of compulsory internship.

To regulate and inspect quality of education provided by india dental colleges, Dental council of India is responsible and it also grants approval to dental college for conducting dental learning program. Till 2010, around 30 thousands are seeking dental learning program in around 291 dental colleges. Among the list of dental colleges in india, 39 are government approved institute while rest of them are private dental educational institute.

The Council is managed by government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Department of Health). The council took account of dental educational body from time to time and grants permission to initiate medical learning program and also take care of seats availability as depending on the infrastructure and other factor. It also lay down standard level of syllabus for the training of dentists and examination.
